Every surgery has its own risks. However, when it comes to plastic surgery, it is beneficial for patients to think that it is done for pleasure and because it is not necessary, there is no risk.

Of course, some physicians may adopt an attitude that supports this idea. Every operation performed under general anesthesia for people over 40 years of age carries some risks and the rate of these increases as the age progresses.

Especially in operations performed under general anesthesia and exceeding 4 hours, blood circulation in the lower parts of the body slows down significantly.

It Manifests Itself with Pain and Changes in the Appearance of the Skin

If left untreated, it will cause long-lasting problems. But the most dangerous thing is that the clot that develops here breaks off and progresses to the lung.

A large clot that travels to the lung can lead to sudden death. This is called a pulmonary embolism.

This is the most feared situation, especially after long surgeries such as tummy tuck. It is difficult to prevent.

The first precaution to be taken is to know the patients who are prone to clotting well and not to operate on them if it is not necessary.

Being immobile before the surgery or even hours of travel (especially in vehicles with limited mobility such as airplanes and cars) can create risks. This is not to be forgotten.

If a patient has a recognized deep vein thrombosis (DVT), non-essential surgeries should not be performed (except for the treatment of thrombosis and emergencies).

The first thing that comes to mind is to take measures to reduce these risks before the surgery.

Getting The Patient Mobile As Soon As Possible

However, this is not easy. The most common measure is to administer drugs that prevent blood from clotting. However, these drugs delay wound healing and may cause serious postoperative problems.

The safest measure is to avoid long operations performed under general anesthesia as much as possible and to make the patient mobile as soon as possible after the operation.

Pressure therapy applied to the legs during and after surgery also provides some benefit. It is okay for patients who regain their normal mobility after surgery to travel by plane and car.
